Elara ShermanPhD studentFrench

Biography

Elara Sherman is a second year PhD student in the Department of French and Italian. Her research interests are primarily in 20th century and contemporary French philosophy and literature, especially the writings of Hélène Cixous, Jacques Derrida, and Emmanuel Levinas. She is also interested in women writers and feminist theory more generally, as well as animal studies and translation. Elara plans to pursue a certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Currently, she is working on a translation of Hélène Cixous’ essay “Nous en somme,” which was originally published in Littérature in 2006.
