Our program offers a variety of courses in language and culture, a well-developed support structure, distinctive overseas programs, and a committed and engaging faculty. Incoming students usually begin with a language course or two. Upper-level literature and culture courses are supported by our Writing Clinic. Students with exceptional ability are often invited to participate in graduate-level courses. The Department offers two options for study abroad: the Summer in Paris program which provides six weeks of language study and cultural activities, and a semester or year-long program, called EDUCO, which allows students to take classes in a variety of subjects at the University of Paris-- it is one of the few programs of its kind in operation. On campus, French students participate in the activities of the French Club and the French Theater Club, and benefit from various departmental events as well as festivals of French film and culture that take place at Emory and in the Atlanta area every year.
