The Department of French and Italian is thrilled to welcome our two new assistant professors, Chad Córdova and Alexander Mendes.


Professor Córdova (PhD, Princeton, 2018) works on literature, philosophy, and the visual arts of early modern and 20th-century France, with particular interests in critiques of humanism and melancholia. 


Professor Mendes (PhD, UC Davis, 2018), is a sociolinguist and second language acquisition specialist, working on multilingualism in the French Mediterranean, with an emphasis on Corsica and minority languages.
