French MajorI. Introductory/Preparatory LevelPLEASE NOTE: There has been a slight change in the requirements for the French Major, effective as of the fall semester of 2008. For students declaring their French majors in fall 2008 and thereafter, French 203 will no longer count toward the major; however, French 313 will count. Students who declared prior to fall 2008 may, if they wish, count 313 instead of 203, but not both. All 3 of the following are required: French 203 Grammar and Composition II. Intermediate LevelAny 3 of the following courses are required. None of these three courses may be repeated: French 331 Studies in the Early Period III. Advanced LevelAny 3 of the 400-level courses in Literature and Culture courses are required: French 460 Novel to Film (may not be repeated). French 488 Topics in French (may be repeated as often as the topics changes) Offered every fall for exceptionally qualified students; limited admission based on French grades and writing sample. Bray Prize is offered annually for the year's best work in French. Sigma chapter of Phi Sigma Iota, the national Romance Language honor society, was installed at Emory in 1930.
