Emory’s Department of French and Italian offers a Ph.D. program in French as well as undergraduate degree programs in both French and Italian Studies. An active events calendar, seminars with distinguished visiting scholars, and unparalleled study-abroad opportunities provide an exciting intellectual climate as well as a foundation for professional development in the U.S. and abroad.

The French program at Emory has long been recognized as a dynamic place for interdisciplinary work in French and Francophone studies. While all faculty work in very different areas (including early modern aesthetics, visual arts and media studies, medical humanities, migration and diaspora studies, psychoanalysis, continental philosophy, critical theory, multilingualism, second language acquisition, and Caribbean and African studies) all members of the French faculty share the sense that our own scholarship and teaching in “French” is driven by the necessity of remaining open to theoretical challenges.

The Italian Studies Faculty are award-winning teachers with a creative interdisciplinary focus including food studies, Mediterranean Studies, and Italy in a global world. We take pride in upholding the tenets of inclusivity and diversity throughout our curriculum, research, and community endeavors.
