Dakshayani ShankarPhD StudentFrench

Biography

Dakshayani (Daksha) Shankar is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Department of French and Italian at Emory University. She has specialized in translation studies, political analyses of Franco-US and Franco-Australian exchanges, and the interrelationship between law, literature and the media. Prior to this doctorate, she worked in international media settings, including CNN, NBC and ABC News. Her research interests include the grasping and un-grasping of women's sovereignty across body and state in the context of medieval and contemporary French political systems and in postcolonial states, notably Southeast Asia, China, India and Sub-Saharan Africa. She plans to undertake a Certificate in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
