Graduate Study Abroad

UNIVERSITÉ PAUL-VALÉRY MONTPELLIER 3

This recently renewed exchange program between Emory University’s Laney Graduate School and the Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 is offered to Ph.D. students who are enrolled in the LGS Humanities and Social Sciences programs. Advanced skills in French are required.

As one of France’s oldest universities, “Montpellier 3” is located in southern France in the region of Occitanie.  The University is within walking distance from the center of Montpellier, thus giving students direct access to all amenities and cultural attractions. Also nearby is the Mediterranean, offering students a large array of outdoor activities from which to choose. Due to Montpellier’s university life, paired with being the commercial axis of the region, this architecturally rich city is a vibrant and dynamic center that attracts students from around the world.

Emory LGS doctoral students may apply to Montpellier 3 for either a semester or the full academic year. Emory stipends and tuition remission follow the student to Montpellier, so financial support remains intact. The University offers student housing with off-campus lodging as another possibility.

Students will have access to the University’s library for research purposes and will have the opportunity to enroll in Master’s and doctoral-level seminars and take part in events organized through a variety of research units: https://www.univ-montp3.fr/fr/%3Cnolink%3E/toutes-les-unités-de-recherche. To assist with acclimation to the University and to life in Montpellier, Emory students will also participate in an orientation program led by the Programmes Anglophones administrative and academic team.

If you would like to learn more about this exciting program, please reach out to Professor Chad Córdova (cacordova@emory.edu) and Leslie Church Hartness (lhartne@emory.edu), both of the Department of French and Italian.
